Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.70 Billion After No Winner in Sept. 3 Drawing

The dream of becoming an overnight billionaire is still alive. Wednesday night’s $1.40 billion Powerball drawing on September 3, 2025, didn’t crown a jackpot winner but plenty of players walked away with big prizes  including a lucky Floridian who is now $1 million richer.

No Jackpot Winner, But Millionaires Emerge

Nobody hit the grand prize by matching all five white balls plus the red Powerball, secondary prizes brought life-changing payouts for many. According to lottery officials, four tickets sold in Michigan, Oregon, Texas, and Wyoming matched five numbers with the Power Play option, each winning $2 million. Meanwhile, 11 tickets nationwide matched five numbers to secure $1 million each with winners spread across California, Georgia, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The winning numbers drawn were 3, 16, 29, 61, 69, with the Powerball 22 and a 2x Power Play.

Jackpot Hits Record Levels for Sept. 6 Drawing

With no jackpot winner, the Powerball prize now climbs to an estimated $1.70 billion for the next draw on Saturday, Sept. 6. Players will have the option of taking a lump sum of $770.3 million in cash. This makes it one of the largest jackpots in Powerball history, continuing a streak of massive rollovers that has fueled national excitement.

Florida’s $1 Million Winner

Florida had its share of luck too; one ticket sold in the state matched five numbers for a $1 million prize. It wasn’t the jackpot, but it was still a seven-figure payday for one Sunshine State resident.

When and How to Play Powerball

The next drawing is set for Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $2 each and must be purchased by 10 p.m. on drawing day in Florida. Players can add the Power Play option for an extra $1, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings by up to 10 times depending on the prize.

For those new to the game, the rules are simple: pick five numbers between 1 and 69 plus one Powerball number between 1 and 26. You can choose your numbers or opt for a quick pick.

Claiming Prizes in Florida

Smaller prizes under $600 can be claimed at authorized retailers. Wins between $600 and $1 million must be redeemed in person at a Florida Lottery district office, while prizes above $1 million require a trip to lottery headquarters. Winners have 180 days to claim prizes, and 60 days if they opt for the cash payout.

Florida law does not allow lottery winners to remain permanently anonymous, but those winning $250,000 or more do get a 90-day privacy period before their name becomes public record.

Powerball Odds

The odds of winning the jackpot remain long at 1 in 292.2 million, but as Wednesday’s results show, many players still walk away with significant prizes even without hitting the jackpot.

With the jackpot now sitting at $1.70 billion, the excitement is at fever pitch. The big question is  will the next draw finally produce a billionaire, or will the record-breaking run continue?
