Nintendo Switch 2 Comes with a Unique Screen Protector, But Don’t Ever Remove It!

As we count down to the exciting launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 later this week, there’s an important heads-up every new user must know. When you unbox your Switch 2, you’ll see what looks like a screen protector but here’s the twist: it’s not a regular screen protector, and Nintendo is clear “Do not peel it off.”

If you’re already a Nintendo Switch 1 veteran, this might sound familiar. But for newcomers, this detail is crucial to keep your device safe.

Does Nintendo Switch 2 come with a screen protector out of the box?

Sort of  but not in the usual way. The Switch 2 screen has a protective film covering the LCD display. This isn’t your typical screen protector you slap on afterward. According to the official Switch 2 user manual spotted by NintendoLife, the screen is actually “covered with a film layer”  not a traditional screen protector. Nintendo explains this layer is “designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage.”

So, should you peel it off?

Absolutely not! This film is a safety feature, placed there during manufacturing. Removing it could put your screen at risk. It’s like a shield that keeps broken glass pieces from flying everywhere if your screen ever cracks.

This isn’t new either Nintendo used a similar adhesive film on the OLED Switch for the same protective reason.

What if I want to add a screen protector on top of this film?

Go ahead! If you buy a Switch 2 screen protector either Nintendo’s own or from trusted brands like Spigen just apply it on top of the protective film, just like you would on a smartphone screen.

Any tips when removing a Switch 2 screen protector?

Yes, be extra careful! You don’t want to accidentally peel off Nintendo’s built-in protective film underneath while swapping or removing your outer screen protector. Simply knowing this layer is there will help you avoid mistakes.
